Carribean Coast Kitesurfing

The best places to kitesurf on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica?  Not much to add here…  There are beautiful white sand beaches, swinging palm trees, and a cool breeze that’s perfect to accompany an afternoon beer, but not often enough for kitesurfing on Costa Rica’s caribbean coast.

Puerto viejo kitesurf LimonWe’ve heard a few reports of kitesurfers trying out Puerto Viejo and even further at Playa Manzanillo, but nothing confirmed yet with videos.  So, send us your trip report, spot review, or some pictures and video and we’ll highlight your trip with credit to your info. Until then, we’ll leave you with Gilbert Brown’s  picture at Salsa Brava, Puerto Viejo’s famous surf spot.

The caribbean coast of Costa Rica and specifically the area around Puerto viejo may not be great for kitesurfing, but it’s a paradise for any surfer… with warm water, a mellow and active surfscene, and a great variety of waves all within a 10-15 minute drive of each other. You’ll find many different breaks in the area, from Salsa Brava, the heaviest wave in Costa Rica, to the perfect beginner waves of Black Beach or the quick beach break at Cocles and the classic longboarding waves of Punta Uva.  Seems like the perfect area for a kitesurfing adventure on some great waves, just need some wind…
